I’m smiling today. My second-floor office window offers an ideal vantage point to see William & Mary students as they walk (to class, to the Sunken Garden, to the Campus Center). Today is the first day of undergraduate classes for the spring semester and I for one am glad they’re back. They’re why I’m here.
Back in early November, my VP facilitated a meeting for all who work in strategic initiatives. Today, as students stream past my office window, I’m reminded of something my boss said that day,
We’re here to make a difference in the lives of our students.
I’m not here to go to meetings, or send emails, or manage projects. I’m here to make an impact on the lives of our students.
To be successful requires my regular involvement in the broader life of the university. Motivation takes many forms. As I seem them walking by I’m reminded they’re why I’m here.
I agree with you 100%. Our customers are the students.
